(thanks to lenz_obsessed for the banner.)
I've been wrestling with the idea of whether I should make my journal friends only or not, and after reading an entry catdecember posted a while back about being able to Google your LJ, I decided that it's about time I protect the more personal entries, i.e. posts with photos or anything too specific. Call me paranoid, but I'm sorry, I just have to protect myself from the weirdos out there. I did Google myself and found links to my LJ and/or posts I made which freaked me out a bit. Oh, and the world doesn't need to know about all my wacky hijinks. :P A lot of the posts will most likely still be public, though, so no need worry too much. For those currently not on my F-list and would like to be, please comment. | comments: 30 comments or Leave a comment |

rainy_summer first posted a link to this on her multiply, and I thought it was interesting so I've played a few times whilst I was bored at work (:P). But then I saw news coverage of this a few weeks back on CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, and I was pleased to see that this really works and food was sent to schoolchildren in Africa. I like expanding my vocabulary and what better way than to help others in need whilst I do so? So Play and Feed, y'all! | comments: Leave a comment |

Chargers excited about trip to London
Friday, Feb 01, 2008 By Casey Pearce , Chargers.com
Upon the release of the NFL’s 2008 schedule, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers had planned on immediately identifying when the Bolts were slated to face his good friend Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. “This is a game I’ve looked forward to and I know our fans have looked forward to for a while,” Rivers said. “You think about Drew and Reggie Bush with his ties to San Diego; the match-up in general was already intriguing.” On Friday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the game will have even more flavor. The Chargers and Saints will play in the second regular-season game ever played outside North America when they meet in Wembley Stadium in London, England on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008. “We’re proud to be chosen,” said Chargers President Dean Spanos. “This is another positive step in the effort to globalize our great sport. It’s an opportunity for the NFL to show off two of its marquee teams and some of its best players as well as a chance for the Chargers to expand our international fan base. In particular, it’s going to be good exposure for the team, our players and our city and another opportunity for our team to grow together. We’re looking forward to it.” The game will be televised by CBS in the United States. The kickoff time will be announced at a later date. The game will be shown live in England, and will also be shown live or as a highlights package in nearly 200 additional countries. “I think there nothing’s better for the team, for the organization and for the fans of San Diego to get exposure internationally,” Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman said. “We’re going there to win a football game, but I’m looking forward to seeing the city and trying a lot of different things out. I’m sure I’ll take a lot of pictures and enjoy all the scenery.” The Chargers-Saints game would be the third NFL regular-season game to be contested on foreign soil. In 2005, the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals met in Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium and, last season, the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants played in London in Wembley Stadium. Former Chargers quarterback Cleo Lemon was the Dolphins’ starting signal caller in their 2007 contest at Wembley Stadium, and Lemon has shared stories with his former teammates about how much he enjoyed playing in London. “You hear from talking to Cleo and other guys about what a great experience it was (in 2007),” Rivers said. “I’ve never really been out of the country. It’s a once in a lifetime experience and I’m really looking forward to it.” To help compensate for the approximately 5,500 mile trip from San Diego to England, the Chargers have requested and expect the NFL to schedule the team to play a road game on the East Coast the week prior to help break up the trip. The team would then fly directly to England from the site of their Week 7 game and spend the week there preparing for the game. The Chargers will have their bye following the Saints game. “The trip itself will be the longest regular-season road trip (in miles) in NFL history,” Spanos said. “We’ve asked the NFL for its support to schedule one of our East Coast road games on the weekend prior. Then, immediately following that game, our plan is to fly directly to England and spend the week going through our normal preparation schedule.” The Chargers have four East Coast road games scheduled for 2008. They’re slated to play in Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Tampa and Miami. The Oct. 26 contest (Week 8) will mark only the 10th regular season meeting between the Chargers and Saints. The Bolts lead the series 7-2 and won the last meeting, 43-17, in San Diego in 2004. The Saints played in the NFC Championship Game in 2006. They are coming off a 7-9 record in 2007. The Chargers finished the 2007 season 11-5 and advanced to the AFC Championship Game. “What we’ve done here the last four years, we’ve accomplished a lot,” Rivers said. “We’ve put ourselves in a position to where we’re going to be battling in January every year. In doing that, you get the opportunity to play in these kinds of games. It’s exciting for everyone involved.” The Chargers have played a total of four games overseas, however all four have been preseason contests. The Chargers played the St. Louis Cardinals in Tokyo, Japan in 1976; the Giants in Berlin, Germany in 1994; the Pittsburgh Steelers in Tokyo again in 1996, and the Denver Broncos in Sydney, Australia in 1999. The league previously announced on January 17 that a regular-season game would be played in the U.K. in 2008, and Commissioner Goodell confirmed Friday that the Chargers and Saints would be the participants. In addition, there will be at least one regular-season game in the U.K. in 2009 and 2010. “Playing a limited number of regular-season games internationally will help build and grow an already passionate international fan base,” Commissioner Goodell said. “The games will strengthen our partnerships with broadcasters and sponsors. The ownership resolution to play regular-season games internationally has evolved to focus on markets, including the U.K. and Canada, where playing games on a regular basis significantly adds to the broad appeal of our sport.”
====================================================================
I know, I, for sure, am looking forward to this! OMG! And this is a game many San Diegans are waiting for, against the Saints since there are still many Drew Brees fans here. OMG, this is so exciting! I wish I could go! Damn, how expensive are the game tickets gonna be? Ridiculously so, I speculate. | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |

| Djokovic does mighty fine impression of a champion, too By BEN WALKER, AP National Writer September 7, 2007
AP - Sep 7, 12:23 am EDT
NEW YORK (AP) -- Might as well have been Open mike night for Novak Djokovic.
Popular on YouTube for his imitations of other pros, and egged on by the crowd, Djokovic showed he had a talent for more than tennis after he won Thursday.
Dancing a little jig, he did a dead-on rendition of Maria Sharapova. Tugging at his shorts, he nailed Rafael Nadal.
"Obviously, the people are looking for that. They're looking for a good tennis player and a player with a lot of emotions and a lot of temperament and personality," he said.
Yep, he might have a future in that racket.
For now, he's got at least one more match to play at the U.S. Open.
Djokovic reached his third straight Grand Slam semifinal, beating No. 17 Carlos Moya 6-4, 7-6 (7), 6-1.
"My goal is to be No. 1 player of the world," the third-ranked Serb said. "I've been working for that all my life. And still I'm just 20, so I have a lot of time left."
Encouraged by USA Network's reporter, Djokovic put on the most entertaining show yet at center court.
Pretending to preen his hair, he did a perfect impression of Sharapova's serve. Dashing wildly toward the back wall, he conjured up Nadal.
Moya saw part of the act.
"It's funny. He does it very well. That's a gift," he said. "If he doesn't succeed in tennis, he has a career in that."
Said Djokovic: "I'm really happy that the people accept it in a positive way. I'm not trying to make fun of Maria or Rafa or anybody else."
There's only one person he can't imitate.
"The untouchable one -- Roger," he said. "He's too perfect for my style."
At this rate, he might soon get to see Mr. Federer.
On Saturday, Djokovic will play No. 15 David Ferrer, who made it to his first major semifinal by beating No. 20 Juan Ignacio Chela 6-2, 6-3, 7-5.
The top-ranked Federer is in his record 14th Grand Slam semifinal in a row and plays No. 4 Nikolay Davydenko on Saturday. Federer is 9-0 against Davydenko, and does almost as well against the other two men left -- 7-0 against Ferrer, 4-1 against Djokovic.
On the women's side, Venus Williams will play Justine Henin in Friday's marquee matchup.
After beating Serena Williams in her previous match, Henin will try to become only the second woman to beat both sisters at the same Grand Slam tournament. Martina Hingis did it at the 2001 Australian Open.
"It will be a good challenge for me to play both sisters in the same tournament," Henin said.
In the other women's semi, 2004 U.S. Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova will play No. 6 Anna Chakvetadze.
Djokovic has a lot of skills, including a talent for bouncing the ball before he serves.
He did it 28 times before he served at a key spot in the tiebreaker. Djokovic put that serve into the net, but eventually won the set.
Moya said he wasn't bothered by Djokovic's routine. What troubled Moya was that Djokovic kept putting those balls in play.
"It's annoying because you know a huge serve is coming," he said. "If he does that and misses, that's OK."
Djokovic dropped the bounces into single digits by the third set, when he overwhelmed the Spaniard.
"This is just a matter of concentration. I'm trying to really focus and not irritate anybody. Sorry if I'm a bit annoying," Djokovic said. "The thing is, I want to stay longer on this court, so that's why I'm bouncing more and more."
Last month, Djokovic beat Federer for the first time. That happened in the final of a hard-court tournament in Montreal when Djokovic became the first man since 1994 to defeat men ranked Nos. 1-3 at the same event.
A night after Federer and Andy Roddick thrilled the crowd, it was far from a high-voltage afternoon at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
There was a constant murmur inside -- many fans were chattering during play, and no one bothered to hush them. A few cell phones went off, usually a clear no-no met with stern looks.
Midway through the Ferrer-Chela match, the concession stands that sell $6 Coney Island hot dogs were empty. So were the counters where they line up Grey Goose vodka bottles for $8 mixed drinks.
Hardly anyone stepped into the Ralph Lauren walk-in boutique store on the suite level, either.
The 20th-ranked Chela had won the previous meetings against Ferrer, both in 2004. Like Ferrer, the Argentine was trying to make it to his first Slam semi.
Coming off a pair of five-set matches, Chela tried to rally in the second set. The eighth game went to seven deuces before Chela won, then Ferrer came back and quickly closed it out.
Chela broke Ferrer for a 2-0 lead in the final set but couldn't hold on.
"That was my only real chance," Chela said.

| It's the first of August and I don't think I've posted once in July. Life is so hectic right now, but I will try to post soon, hopefully after my online class (which takes up a huge bulk of my time) ends in 2 1/2 weeks. I still need to do mini-reviews of Order of the Phoenix, Pirates 3, and No Reservations. I'll also try to post more pics of what's been going on in class, i.e. pics of food! Hahahaha! Our new chef instructor for this quarter (Classical/International/Latin Cuisine) is really strict, so I've been busy trying to be perfect in that class from Monday to Wednesday, and the rest of the week I spend at work, so yup...no summer vacation for me!
Gah, and in 2 weeks, it's our midterm practical. French cuisine (Provencal). 5 course progression: Amuse Bouche; Appetizer, Soup, or Salad; Fish Course; Meat Course; Dessert. 6 identical portions of each course. 5 courses x 6 portions = 30 plates in 6 hours. Not only that, but we also need to complete our requisition list by next Tuesday and put together a folder of the following: recipe sheets costed out ($100 for each group), equipment list, time line, action plan, 45 minute critical period, menu, and team brigade system by next next Monday. Lord help us all! | comments: 16 comments or Leave a comment |

Plus, Ratatouille tonight! It's a chef movie! It has to be cute! Hahaha! I've made ratatouille before in class during 1st quarter, and I think it's cute how the pronunciation is right under the word in the main title art thing because not a lot of people even know what it is, much less pronounce it if they haven't ever heard of it before. It's actually very delicious, so try it sometime. :)
I love the discussion about the kitchen brigade...chef, sous chef, saucier, chef de partie, commis...sigh. Sorry, I'm just in love with this movie already, even if it turns out to be a flop (which I hope NOT!!!).
ETA: Oooh, homegirl (one of the chefs?) has my haircut, so yay! Hahaha, I'm a dork. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
